Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is located beside Jinji Lake in the eastern suburb of the Suzhou city, and eighty kilometers away from Shanghai. It has become one of the most concentrated investment sites for top-500 global companies in the entire world. It was built in May 1994 and it operates under the principle of "selective investment" to avoid aimless investment that may lead to negative impact such as environmental destruction.

The park covers about 4 percent of Suzhou's land and population and produces 15 percent of the city's GDP, 25 percent of its foreign investment and 30 percent of foreign trade. SIP is located 80 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and 120 kilometers away from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Companies that have a presence in SIP are mainly comprised of High Tech manufacturing industries such as IT, electric machinery, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. The park has recently put more emphasis on companies that highlight science, technology and service.
